While smartphone use is growing, over 70% of Tanzanian women still rely on basic mobile phones. That’s why we chose to develop a USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) system - a simple, menu-based technology that works on any phone, with no need for data or apps. By dialling a short code, users will be able to access trusted, culturally-sensitive information about their menstrual cycle, learn their fertile windows and receive sms reminders. The implementation costs involved with this are travel to visit with women in rural communities and share with them the power of this knowledge

The core objectives of Mwandamo as an organization are to establish a Health Centre strategically located in Arusha, Tanzania, to provide accessible healthcare for all women in the community. The Centre will implement a flexible fee structure to accommodate diverse financial situations, ensuring inclusivity. It will offer a range of services tailored to women’s needs, including nutritional guidance, mental health support, maternity care, and postpartum assistance. Through holistic and nurturing care, Mwandamo seeks to empower women and mothers with the knowledge and resources to understand their bodies better, with the ultimate goal of improving women’s health outcomes across Tanzania.
