From Conversations to Care: Binti Imara & Mwandamo Mduara❤️
With heartfelt gratitude to Tanzania Horse Safaris for making this opportunity possible. This mission would not have been possible without their support, which helped us bring menstrual health education and menstrual sanitary products to the community of Enduimet near Kaskazi Camp.
Through our projects of Mwandamo Mduara and Binti Imara, we held three community circles, bringing together 11 men and 10 women at the camp, and approximately 21 women at a Maasai boma.
Our circle with the men was particularly special. In Maasai communities, opportunities to sit together and openly discuss women's reproductive health are rare. The conversation lasted longer than expected, with many thoughtful questions, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to learn. One moment touched our hearts deeply in this session: a grandfather asked for a reusable pad kit for his only granddaughter, who is about to complete secondary school. He wanted her to not only have what she needed to manage her periods but also stay in school. In that simple request, we saw a grandfather's love and a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
The women’s circle at Kaskazi Camp was full of life, with two koko’s and one traditional mid-wife total of 10 women actively engaging in conversations about menstrual health and maternity. There was a beautiful sense of openness as women shared, asked questions, and learned from one another. It was more than an educational session; it was a space for connection, understanding, and empowerment.10 reusable pad kits and 12 menstrual cups where distributed to support women.
At the Maasai boma, the situation was a little different. The women were little occupied , making it challenging to gather everyone for a longer discussion. However, we were still able to connect with approximately 21 women, share important information about menstrual health and hygiene, and distribute reusable pad kits. Mwandamo Mduara’s goal was still fulfilled: reaching women where they are regardless the situation, sharing knowledge, and support menstrual health with care.
We also visited Endonyoemali dispensary hoping to have a session with expecting mothers and distribution of Birth kits through our Thamini Mama project but it was a pleasant surprise to learn that in this area the government already provide these materials and so we decided the kits would be better used by mothers who need them more as not all government facilities offer this support to the women.
